The CW's Superman & Lois Gets a Series

From DC Comics

For the first time since the conclusion of Smallville in 2011, the Man of Steel will anchor his own TV show…and this time, he’ll be suited up and ready for action.

The CW announced today that they’ve given a series order to Superman & Lois, a new ongoing series set in the network’s “Arrowverse” and featuring the Last Son of Krypton and his equally iconic wife and companion. Here’s what the official series description has to say about it:

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Elizabeth Tulloch (Grimm) as the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Both Hoechlin and Tulloch have already appeared as these iconic characters in multiple episodes of The CW’s DC superhero series, including this season’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event, which concludes tonight. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman & Lois is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (The Flash) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC.

As the description alludes to, Hoechlin and Tulloch aren’t new to their roles. Hoechlin made his first appearance as Kara’s famous cousin in season two of Supergirl, while Tulloch debuted as Lois in last season’s crossover event, “Elseworlds.” After that event’s conclusion, the pair chose to remain on Argo City, which had survived the destruction of Krypton, in order to have a child. Now, with the baby born, they returned to Earth to aid in the Crisis and in the process narrowly avoided death, as Argo City was destroyed in an antimatter wave.

While we don’t know how Crisis will resolve…yet, it’s good to know that comics’ most beloved superhero couple survives, and that Clark will once again don his iconic suit. Who the pair will work alongside (let’s not forget that James Olsen and Cat Grant have moved on) and battle against (could Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor be a part of the show as well?) remain to be seen, but rest assured, as any casting and character news breaks, you’ll read about it right here.

Mr. Oz observes a ray of blue energy streaking across space and ponders about the mysteries of the universe. His thoughts are interrupted by a sudden realization: someone has escaped from his base of operations. Oz runs across the hallways of his base, ignoring the mocking laughs of his other prisoners, makes his way to the escapee's abandoned cell, a giant stone structure. He searches the cell and sees drawings of Superman and words expressing hope about Superman coming to save the prisoner.

Meanwhile at Hamilton County, the Smiths prepare to celebrate Clark and Lois' wedding anniversary. Jon provides his parents with presents; a journal for Lois and a farming book for Clark. The Smiths blow the candles on the cake celebrating the occasion until the doorbell rings. Jon and Krypto go to greet the visitor, only to find a book lying on the entrance and the human Clark walking off into the distance.

Clark hears Krypto's barking and realizes his duplicate has found them. He puts on his Superman uniform and goes to confront the other Clark, only to find no one in the vicinity. The Smiths peruse the book left by the other Clark, a book that says "The Kents" on the cover. The book contains pictures of the history Clark and Lois had together. Suddenly, the kitchen curtain catches fire, a strange blue fire that expands throughout the entire house. The flames do not burn the house and leave no smoke; instead, they erase everything on their path. Jon is caught by the flames and his parents attempt to put the flames out, but Jon suddenly vanishes without a trace. A few moments later, he reappears in a different room within the house. Superman covers Jon with his cape and the family makes their way outside.

The flames consume not only the Smith household but Jon as well, leaving no trace of their existence behind. Even the photos in the new Kent album are completely blank. Superman and Lois realize that Jon has been taken by the other Clark and decide to get their son back.
